Online shoppers warned
As holiday season arrives and thousands of shoppers head online to avoid the queues, Apacs has issued a warning to consumers to protect their credit card information.
The online payments association urged those shopping online to make sure that their computers have virus protection and firewalls.
Apacs spokesman Mark Bowerman stated that those shopping online should also make sure that any transactions are processed correctly.
He stated: "When you're actually submitting your card data . you firstly need to look out for the padlock icon in the browser window and then the 'http' should change to 'https' to indicate that the site is secure.
"Obviously the only person that should know what that password is you, so if anybody's trying to use your card fraudulently, they shouldn't be able to continue."
Between 2005 and 2006 there was a rise in banking fraud of 46 per cent, according to Apacs.
